Carbo echoed similar sentiments on the Team 990 today.

I wonder if, upon hearing of Gainey's resignation he had a good chuckle to himself. Gainey felt he had no choice but to fire Carbo, but you have to think that Carbo felt at least a little vindicated that Gainey was not able to turn the ship around either, despite his best efforts.

Pouliot might have done better in Minnesota this year without Lemaire coaching, but as he was injured it's hard to say. What's striking is that almost one third of his NHL goals have already come in Montreal.

As for Latendresse, well, he getting the necessary ice time he needed to showcase his abilities in Minnesota and he's not taking it for granted.

Who wins this? I don't think that can be decided even this year. Maybe slight edge to Minnesota.

Great read Kevin. btw. I still have my program from the 79 game. It resides on my coffee table each and every hockey season. My dad, my girlfriend and I were outside the Forum that night about 30 mins before the game. Dad was haggling with scalpers for tickets. I walked up to the ticket window and inquired about ticket availability not expecting to find seats. Imagine my surprise when i scooped the only 3 seats together left in the building. I scored 3 reds and if I remember correctly they cost $7.50 each! What a great memory.

It's not as special as yours, but my newly rich big bro got me (aside from a sweet Team Canada jersey) a zip-up hoodie with the vintage leaf-shaped logo on it. I've been looking for a nice women's zip-up with a Habs logo on it for about three years now and couldn't find one until the vintage logo ones came out in spring... asked everyone in my family except my brother (then still looking for the elusive high-paying government job) to buy me one, and didn't get one. Then I didn't see them in stores anymore and I sulked.

Although I like both our goaltenders very much... and both have shown they can play very well I'm certainly not against moving Halak.

The team does have certain needs... another top 6 forward certainly wouldn't hurt although I'm not sure that Halak's value would be high enough to command such a acquisition.

I think Gainey tried to make a winner out of what he had with the "old core" of the previous team.... the team now has a new look, new feel... and I would certainly doubt that he's done with the changes.

I know Halak will be a restricted free agent still... but I hate thinking of loosing guys for nothing.

Hope he's able to pull off a good move.

I think Halak deserves a shot somewhere too.
